Not only are women--and women of color--under-represented in leadership positions, but they’re also paid less across the board. This is particularly problematic in government relations where, according to WGR’s compensation study with Bloomberg Government, women make 68 cents for every dollar earned by their male colleagues. That's nearly 15 cents below our already unacceptable national average.
We deserve better. We deserve more.
While the pay equity gap is systemic in nature, a compounding issue is that women are rarely trained on how to negotiate. In fact women, and especially women of color, are often socialized to be “good girls,” to be quiet, or to be grateful for what they have… and it’s holding us back from our fullest earning potential.
